Move over boring PB & J on white bread…your favorite sandwich just got a huge makeover!
Disclaimer: I was compensated by Dave’s Killer Bread to create this recipe. However, like always, the opinions are entirely my own. Promise ๐
Have you seen that commercial where the dad is shopping for back to school supplies, skipping down the aisles while the kids look sad and “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year” is playing?? It’s awesome. And yes, mostly every parent out there feels that way. I know I do.
Listen, I love having my kids home and doing fun summer activities as much as the next person, but by August I am always ready for a normal routine again. My kids don’t go back to school until September but I know many kids start in August. It’s never too early to start thinking about lunches for back to school and if you are like me, it can get stressful.
All of my kids love PB & J, but just like anything else, that can get boring if you eat it every day. I thought this would be a great way to mix things up a bit. And boy was I right.

I used my favorite, Dave’s Killer Bread for this grilled sandwich. It’s organic, NON-GMO Verified, packed with protein and fiber and even omega-3-fatty acids! Why not add some nutrition your sandwich?
If you don’t have the time to grill this, simply make it as a regular sandwich! It tastes great both ways, trust me, I know!
My kids loved these sandwiches with all of the chocolate almond butter oozing out of them (one of my kids even licked the plate to make sure he didn’t waste any) but you don’t have to put as much on each slice. Probably 1 tablespoon on each slice is enough, but I won’t tell if you add more ๐
Who else is getting ready for back to school? What are your favorite sandwiches to pack in your kids’ lunch boxes? Have you tried Dave’s Killer Bread yet?
Oh goodness! I wish my mom would have made this sandwich for me when I was a kid! This looks incredible, Lauren!
Thank you Julie!!
Dave’s Killer Bread is my new favorite. I love so much about it–the ingredients they use, the mission they have and those seeds! This sandwich is so creative and would be a great lunch time treat!
Thank you Julia! I love Dave’s Killer Bread too ๐
I haven’t seen that commercial but just hearing about it makes me laugh! How true! And no I havent seen that type of bread, but I agree why not add nutrition when you can. I’ll be looking for it when back to school time comes.
Ok Katie, you need to check out youtube for the commercial and find this bread! ๐
My daughter goes back in August and I gotta say – I’d be ready to do back to school if this was in my lunch box!
Wow that’s early Shashi!
Wow – what a decadent sandwich! Forget the kids – I want one for myself!
Ha! Me too Martha!
I used to hate that commercial as a kid! Now that I don’t have to go to school, I have to admit it was funny! Love this idea for a sandwich – it might even be my dinner later ๐
Go for it Ashley! ๐
Oh my word. I could eat this everyday!!!
Talk about an amazingly delicious sandwich!! WOW!
These sandwiches look heavenly! I LOVE Dave’s Killer Bread!
Thank you Lisa!
I’ll have to keep a look out for that brand! And that sandwich. Yes please.
First of all, that’s basically the best name for bread EVER! And I love everything on this sandwich. Almond butter is a total weakness of mine, but I’ve never had some with chocolate in it!
Using the Chocolate Almond Butter instead of peanut butter was an awesome idea!!! I don’t have kiddos but I’ll be making these for me! haha
The bread looks great – I haven’t seen this brand in stores yet! This sandwich… OMG is all I can say. I want one so badly!!!
I actually have not seen that commercial but we are definitely thinking about back to school! 9 days and counting! The summer went way too fast! This bread looks amazing!
As much as I love spending time with my boys during the summer, the fighting-every-five-minutes phase that we’ve now entered is getting old. This sandwich sounds like a kid’s dream lunch!
