Energy drinks are all the rage, why not save money and make one at home? Packed with fiber, protein, antioxidants and healthy fats, this Blood Orange Green Tea Chia Energy Drink is perfect right before your next workout! This delicious energy drink is vegan, dairy free, gluten free and so easy to make.

I was in the grocery store last week and I noticed the chia drinks like Mamma Chia.  I always pick them up, read the ingredients, check the price and put it back on the shelf.

They are expensive and some have over 20 grams of sugar per serving!

And some of them have unnecessary additives like sugars, preservatives, additives and colors.  So I decided to make my own which was super easy to prepare and ridiculously CHEAP!

I am all about saving money and making sure that I know exactly what the ingredients are in what I am eating and drinking. That is very important to me.

If you are looking for some more healthy drink recipes, you will love this Apple Chai Latte, Eggnog Latte, Low Carb Bulletproof Hot Chocolate or even some Spiked Apple Cider!

Also, my cookbooks are both on sale now and would make a great gift! The Everything Wheat Free Diet Cookbook and The Greek Yogurt Cookbook are both the lowest prices I have seen!

Why You Should Make This Energy Drink

You guys know I love my chia seeds.  They are so ridiculously good for you and loaded with nutrition.

I am also on a blood orange kick these days.  You can use the juice of whatever fruit you like but I especially love blood oranges in the winter.

I love to make this with all different fruits that I have on hand just to mix it up and to prevent boredom. If you are anything at all like me you can tend to eat or drink the same thing for days on end.

Sometimes it's just easier this way but yes it can get a little tedious. I frequently need reminders to mix up my routine every now and then.

And this has no added sugar (besides the natural sugar in the orange!) I steeped my favorite Green Tea Kombucha for this drink but I have also used this Super Antioxidant Green Tea which also tasted delicious.

This drink is perfect before a workout or whenever you need a little energy boost. Especially if you have kids, I know you will understand.

    Recipe Tips

You can use less chia seeds and more liquid if you don't like it that thick.  Personally, I absolutely love the texture.

It's super easy to prepare and you can make a few at once for your prep days. It saves so much time and is convenient for those busy days.

Just remember that chia seeds absorb lots of liquid which eventually turns gelatinous so if you are making a few on your meal prep day, you might need to add some extra liquid and stir.

I don't use any extra sweetener in this energy drink recipe because I don't think you need it. But a few of my readers have told me that they have added some stevia and other sugar free alternatives that tasted great.

The combination of green tea and blood orange is refreshing and healthy. I also love that I can have a new chia drink to add to my rotation.

What a fabulous way to use chia seeds! I have seen those drinks too and for the price I always wonder if it's worth it. Now that I know I can make them from scratch I'm all over this!

I just got my husband on the chia pudding train. And now I need to get him OFF the only-drinking-coffee-all-day train, and get him on this! I had no idea you could put chia in a drink! Pinned!
