This Detox Carrot Drink is the perfect start to your clean eating lifestyle! @LkellyNutrition #vegan

Detox Carrot drink is vitamins and minerals and is anti-inflammatory. This detox carrot drink is very nutritious, easy to make and incredibly delicious.

Detox carrot drink in a clear glass.

This is the perfect time of year to start thinking about making permanent lifestyle changes.  Not diets, but small changes in your lifestyle that will last forever.  This Detox Carrot Drink will be that first step in the right direction.

Many people choose the easy way out and start juice cleanses, restrictive diets and other fads that promise huge results in a short amount of time.  They might work for the short term, but inevitably most people gain the weight back.

Some even gain MORE weight back because they were feeling so deprived.  I am a huge fan of eating everything in moderation, but I also believe that the beginning of a new year is a great time to reevaluate health habits.

I am not advising to drink this juice (and only this juice) all day for a week with no food.  That is too restrictive and most likely leads to overindulging once the "cleanse" is over.

This juice makes the perfect supplement to a clean eating lifestyle.

If you like this drink, you might also like my Coconut Water Ginger Lemonade, Naturally Flavored Infused Waters, Apple Chai Latte or Low Carb Bulletproof Hot Chocolate.

Why You Should Make This Detox Carrot Drink

With all of the vitamins and minerals in this juice it also acts as an immune system booster.  And with all the sickness and flus going around, we all could use something to boost our immune systems.

Germs are everywhere these days, especially when you have kids.  Sigh… I need to drink this STAT!

Isn't this so pretty? Well it's also super nutritious and good for you.

Always remember that bright color (naturally bright colors like fruits and vegetables) mean they are loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

    Recipe Ingredients

    • Carrots - Loaded with Vitamin A and beta carotene which are loaded with antioxidants and help to fight off free radicals.
    • Oranges - Packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants that help support your immune system and also gives you glowing skin.  With the cold winter air, I totally need some help with my skin these days.
    • Apples - Filled with dietary fiber that helps keep you full.  They also contain phytonutrients that help regulate blood sugar levels.
    • Lemons - Loaded with Vitamin C and other flavanoids that help boost the immune system.  They also also alkalizing, which means that they help to restore the body's pH.  I drink a cup of warm lemon water most mornings before I eat anything or drink any green tea.
    • Turmeric - Powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.  I can't say enough about turmeric.  It's down right awesome.
    • Ginger - Another strong anti-inflammatory as well and has shown to boost energy levels (who couldn't use that?!)  Ginger also helps aid digestion and helps settle an upset stomach.
    • Raw Apple Cider Vinegar - This probably my favorite all around immune system booster.  Apple Cider Vinegar is a powerful antimicrobial and has proven to kill some forms of bacteria.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar has also shown to help regulate blood sugar levels, which is helpful for diabetics.  Lastly, it also has shown to aid in losing weight too

I take 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and dilute it on 6-8 ounces of water whenever I need a boost to my immune system.  I am not going to lie and tell you that it tastes delicious, that's why I dilute it in water.

You need to be careful of drinking apple cider straight (not diluted) because it may erode too enamel as well.

    Recipe FAQ's and Expert Tips

Can I make this carrot drink ahead of time to drink later?

Yes, this homemade carrot drink will last for up to two days in the refrigerator in a sealed container or jar. I like to use mason jars to store my juices in the refrigerator.

Can I drink this every day to support my immune system?

One thing to keep in mind is that if you consume large amounts of carrots and carrot juice, your skin might actually turn yellow! I actually know someone that that happened to. I would limit this to a couple of times a week.

Are there more health benefits in making this in a juicer or a blender?

Since I don't own a juicer (I have no room for another appliance!) I have to say the blender is your best bet. Blenders are more versatile than juicers, and can be used for other kitchen tasks like making smoothies, soups, cakes, pancakes.. you name it!
Juicing also doesn't include the pulp which contains all of the fiber. Blending incorporates all the pulp which means that it contains more fiber and helps to keep you full longer.

    Ingredients

    • 7 carrots you can peel if you'd like but I keep them unpeeled
    • ½ orange peeled
    • ½ apple
    • ½ lemon
    • ½ inch turmeric root
    • ½ inch ginger root
    • 1 teaspoon raw apple cider vinegar

    Instructions

    • Place everything in high speed blender or juice and pulse to desired consistency. If you are not using a juicer, you might need to add a little water or even almond milk to get it to pulse.

    Notes

This juice will help get you back on track, reduce bloat and help fight off those germs.  It also taste delicious too (which is always a bonus!)
Feel free to add some stevia, honey or 100% maple syrup if you need to add some sweetness.  I think it's perfect the way it is but everyone has different tastes.

What a great recipe - thank you so much for sharing!! I was looking for a way to incorporate apple cider vinegar into something that tastes good and I think this is it. I've heard that carrots are also great protection against lung cancer which runs in my family - do you know if this is true?

Cayenne is a great herb to use, but it is important to note to use * raw * or uantrsoed cayenne. It is called capiscum if you get it from an herbal/health food store. While it is still hot it is mostly bitter. Processed cooked cayenne loses most of it's medicinal properties, is very hot, and will not heal the stomach (or body) the same as capiscum will. A great source of information for capiscum is Lalitha Thomas's book: The 10 Essential Herbs. July 12, 2013 Sarah

      Hello,

I just found this recipe, and wanted to say I really loved how you included apple cider vinegar in it! I make lots of juice recipes, and have been considering fitting apple cider into the mix for its alkalizing and other awesome nutritional properties. To boot you got ginger and turmeric into a juice together! I'm going to have to give this one a shot, definitely a powerful juice!

A question and a comment. How big and how many carrots to use for this drink using a blender? I only used about 6 carrots. They were 6-8 inches long about 1 inch in diameter at the big end. I just made this and it is delicious, but with all of these ingredients, especially 9 carrots, it ends making up a lot more than one serving. Should I cut the recipe in half? Suggestions?

Hi Jon! I used 9 medium sized carrots and I used a vitamix. I would suggest either cutting it in half or saving the rest for later. I hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi. Can you tell me how much lemon juice to drink each morning, and does it have to be fresh lemon or is the juice in the plastic lemon in the produce section at the grocery store okay? I'm guessing not, but wanted to check. I read somewhere else, recently, that drinking lemon water in the morning is great for your health, but I can't remember where I read it!
Can't wait to make the carrot drink after I figure out where to buy tumeric root and ginger root? Does Publix have those??? Thanks!

Hi MaryAnn! Fresh lemon is always best. As for turmeric and ginger root, you should be able to find ginger root in most grocery stores. If you can't find turmeric root, you can easy use 1 teaspoon of the ground turmeric. Hope that helps!

There have always been conflicting views to alkalizing effect of lemons and the “How can something acidic be alkalizing?” argument. It all comes down to whether the acidic food is anionic (look it up, Mich). Red meat and processed foods (though not acidic in nature) are extremely acid-promoting while fresh Lemon juice (acidic in nature) is anionic (one of the only true anionic foods in the world) and therefore produces an alkalizing effect on the body after the body metabolizes the juice. As an aside I’ve been drinking Lemon water every morning for past 4 yrs and have never felt better. Thanks for sharing this, Lauren

Your recipe looks great but did you say lemons were alkalizing? I don't think so. They have a pH of ~2 and are highly acidic.

Thank you Mike! Yes, outside of the body lemon juice is acidic; inside the body after its minerals dissociate, its effect is alkalizing. So in fact, lemon juice is both acidic and alkalizing! I hope you like it!
