Setting goals doesn’t have to be so overwhelming. Start by making simple, healthier choices in what you eat daily.
Now is the time of year many people are starting to think about new year’s resolutions. Did you know that most people who make resolutions end up quitting them by January 15? Isn’t that crazy? The reason why is because most people make such unrealistic goals, like “I want to lose 20 pounds”. Most people get overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin. I always recommend starting with small, realistic goals. They are much easier to follow through with and feel great when you achieve them!
When I began my path to a healthier lifestyle many years ago, I started to make small changes in my favorite foods that I ate daily. I need to lose some weight and wanted to be healthier. My mother died of cancer at a very young age and I knew my passion for health would remain with me forever. I switched from regular peanut butter (which I can’t even eat now!) to only eating natural ones. I stopped drinking diet sodas (yes, I am guilt of having one every now and then) and decided to drink more water. I started reading labels to learn what was in the foods I was eating. I learned about the importance of dietary fiber and protein and of course, calories. I knew watching my calories were crucial to me losing weight.
I read my labels and gained knowledge about what I was putting into my body. I took small steps to achieve big goals. It felt really wonderful not only that I looked better, but I felt better. I felt ALOT better.

One of the labels I started to read was my bread. I am not a huge bread eater but my family loves bread. Sara Lee® Delightful breads are a healthier bread option. They contain no high fructose corn syrup, no trans fats, 11 grams of whole grains per slice and only have 45 calories per slice. Sara Lee® Healthy Multi-Grain Bread has a delicious blend of whole wheat, rye, oats, barley and corn that even picky eaters will love!
Sara Lee® Delightful Breads varieties are: Oatmeal, 100% Whole Wheat (made with real honey), Healthy Multi-Grain and Wheat. Sara Lee® Delightful breads can be eaten with jam, hummus, grilled cheese or even french toast! I am planning on making my Mixed Berry Overnight French Toast Casserole with the Healthy Multi-Grain bread for Christmas morning 🙂 Feel free to checkout all of the Sara Lee® products here.
Check out the deliciousness of this french toast casserole. My family LOVES it!

That casserole looks so delicious! Love the mixed berries in it rather than the cinnamon and sugar ones you typically see. Next year I am hoping to be more mentally healthy! You understand with blogging and such, your work never shuts off. I am hoping to be able to step away in the evenings and most weekends to actually have down time and spend time with my husband!
i know several people that need good tips like these from someone who has successfully lost weight so i will share this with them! plus, what a great recipe for the french toast.
It is amazing what you find when you read labels! This is the perfect way to start 2015. Love Sara Lee’s program. What a great help to staying on your goal.
By January 15th? That’s unbelievable! Taking baby steps and making (and achieving) small goals seems more realistic for everyone.
I love breakfasts that you can prepare ahead of time… and this looks fabulous!!!
These are some great tips! It’s incredible how quickly people give up on their resolutions. Small goals throughout the year is the way to go in my book. Not the big lofty ones, it gets too overwhelming that way.
The small goals/steps thing is so true. It’s so sad how many people fall off track b/c their goals are too ambitious out of the gate.
