Happy New Year!
Ahhh…now is the time when people start fad diets and vow to go to the gym every day. How many of you are making resolutions?
A lot of people are trying to lose weight for their New Year’s resolution. I wish people would focus on good health for the long term, but I do understand wanting to lose some weight (and inches!) Many people stop eating carbohydrates in hopes to lose weight quickly. Cutting carbs from your diet may have short-term weight loss benefits due to water loss from a decrease in carbohydrate stores. Remember, not all carbs are bad for you. Cutting out simple sugars from your diet can be beneficial to weight loss, as well as type 2 diabetes prevention. Whole grain carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy in moderation will not lead to weight gain and are good for you. Carbohydrates are a primary source of fuel for our body. Cutting carbs can lead to fatigue, nutrient deficiencies and changes in mood. Be smart about your choices and reap the benefits!
Focus on SMALL changes for 2013 and you will be more likely to stay with it for the entire year. Make these small goals REALISTIC and ATTAINABLE!
