Refreshing, healthy, delicious and relaxing, this Blueberry Lavender Smoothie is plant-based and completely stress-free.
There is something about lavender that just makes me happy. The fragrance reminds me of simpler times as a young girl visiting my grandmother.
She had these lavender soaps in her bathroom and I always loved the smell. It just smelled clean and fresh.
I recently visited my local Savory Spice Shop and I felt like a kid in a candy store. I stumbled on culinary lavender which got me crazy excited and knew I had to:
1. Smell it all day long.
2. Make lots of things with it.
It might sound strange to put lavender in a smoothie but it was just enough to make it fragrant and not over-powering. In foods such as this smoothie, lavender is slightly sweet but still very slightly floral.
I loved it.
And I am totally patting myself on the back for trying something new. I have been known to be quite picky and this was a huge accomplishment for me.
Yes, I can be even pickier than some of your children and I am a grown adult. It’s frustrating but I am working on it!
Did you know that there was a culinary grade of lavender? My mind is going crazy with ideas of what to make…lavender pancakes, muffins, cakes, cookies….the possibilities are endless!
This gorgeous smoothie (if I do say so myself) is packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and protein. I just had to add some protein to this beauty.
Oh and I added spinach because, well, it’s spinach and should always be added to smoothies!
I promise you can not taste spinach in smoothies at all. That is why I always recommend you to add them to your kids’ smoothies because they will never taste it.
The only problem is the color.
Sigh.
Parents of picky kids get my frustration.
Spinach makes smoothies a greenish color, so that’s why I always add blueberries to cover up any spinach flavor and that repugnant green color that kids seem to despise.
I was excited to try Bob’s Red Mill new Vanilla Protein Powder and was fortunate enough for them to send me some sample to try. Loved it.
Plant based pea protein with chia and probiotics, what’s not to love?
How great that added probiotics to their protein powder. I can always use some extra live microorganisms that help to improve and restore the gut flora.
Remember there are so many health problems that begin in our gut so adding some more good bacteria will help keep our bodies healthy and working well.
This good bacteria helps you in many ways, including fighting off bad bacteria when you have too much of it, helping you feel better.
I’ll take anything I can get and this seems like an easy way to help.
Go ahead and use whatever protein powder that you like or already have in the house to make life easier. I do think that vanilla protein powder works best in this recipe but if you do try a chocolate protein powder here, please come back and let me know.
I always love to hear about your substitutions and how they come out and I love to share with my readers.
