Recipe Tips
If you don’t have a donut pan, you can easily use a regular size muffin tin make these little poppable donut holes in muffin tins instead. These will still taste delicious and be more of a muffin texture.
They are super fun to eat and my kids love them. My donut pan only makes 6 doughnuts, so I used my muffin tins for the rest of the batter. I also rolled them into balls to make donut holes.
Since these babies are baked they don't taste exactly like a donut, more like a donut or muffin or cake. Does that make sense?
I am not sure if it is the actual taste of a donut or the smell that I don't like. Either way, these don't taste or smell like classic donuts.
The applesauce and Greek yogurt help to make these donuts light and moist (sorry, but I hate that word). Thet really do have the most perfect texture.
I like to make my own applesauce using this recipe and use all apples instead of pears. It tastes even better with homemade applesauce!
Why You Should Make These Baked Applesauce Donuts
Here is the best part…they are only 135 calories each so you can enjoy these bad boys guilt-free! And yes, that includes that gooey yogurt glaze!
I like to make a double batch of these babies and freeze half of them. I have even frozen them when they were already glazed and they were still crazy delicious.
I like to keep these in the freezer for those busy mornings when I have no time to make breakfast for the kids. I just leave these on the counter for 15 minutes or so and then I place them in the toaster oven for a few minutes.
I forgot to mention that these awesome doughnuts are in The Greek Yogurt Cookbook too! If you'd like me to sign a copy for a holiday gift, please buy it here and I'll send one to you asap!

lauren.kelly
I am not sure, Rita? Did you use a donut pan?
lauren.kelly
I have only made them a few times with a muffin pan but they were in the mini muffin pans, I wonder if that makes a difference?

Where do you buy your whole wheat pastry flour? I only have regular wheat flour on hand. Also, is there a brand of unrefined sugar you used? Is that the same as coconut sugar or raw sugar? Thanks for the tips! I want to make these ASAP!
lauren.kelly
Hi Jennifer! You can easily use whole wheat flour for these as well. I use coconut palm sugar or sucanat as my unrefined sugar but any of them will work! I hope you like them 🙂
